CAMDEN
A new partnership with Susquehanna University will benefit students in the city's public schools.
Camden students will get to visit and meet with officials at the Selinsgrove, Pa., university, attend workshops and give performances there, and receive mentoring from Susquehanna students.
University students also will present concerts in Camden, and scholarships for city students who attend Susquehanna will be established, said Camden schools spokesman Bart Leff.
The partnership is being established in memory of Camden Riversharks founding owner Stephen R. Shilling, a 1980 graduate of Susquehanna University.
Shilling, who died in May, had been a member of the university's board of directors since 1997.
On Sunday, Ron Cohen, Susquehanna's vice president for university relations, ran in the Philadelphia Marathon to raise money as part of this new partnership. Four Camden students ran with Cohen; more than $17,500 was committed as part of the fund-raiser.
