Camden Developer to model new development afterRittenhouse
Square
Recently, Randy Primas, the city's chief operating officer, announced a plan to build up to 3,000 new homes in the Lanning Square neighborhood that could some day rival Society Hill in Philadelphia. The neighborhood is situated between downtown and the Delaware River. It is a prime location that developers had ignored until the state put seed money into the city's revitalization. The Lanning Square proposal and a $1.2 billion project to redevelop a section of Cramer Hill are building hope and some anxiety for residents. Residents hope that city officials will do everything to help them stay in their rejuvenated communities. City officials hope that reconstruction eventually will erase the blight that has held back Camden. There is reason to hope that both residents and city officials will be pleased in the long run. The state's $175 million grant to Camden continues to attract private investment. This will no doubt lift the fortunes of the city and its residents.
