Proposal from Camden Land and Dream: Camden Architectural Competition 1,000 properties ideal for Infill development should be identified,
concentrated as close together as possible. These could be vacant lots or tear
downs. A competition should be held for the most appealing residential design built to sell in the Camden market. Architects should design and build with the confidence their property will sell. The entry fee is $10,000. Architects should build with the additional cost of the entry fee in mind, with the assumption that if they do not win a cash prize they will still recoup their fee in the sale. The first prize for the winning design should be $500,000. Second, $300,000, Third, $200,000. 100 entries would be enough to cover the prizes. If more than 100 architects enter, the prize awards can be increased. If not enough architects enter to cover the $1,000,000 in prizes, the awards can be lowered, or the competition scraped and entry fees returned. The contest should be designed so that no one loses money, except in the case a builder miscalculates on what his creation will sell for. The purpose of the competition is 3 fold:
The board of Judges should consist of the most prestigious Architects available. The goal of the architect / builders in the contest is to win this coveted prize to advance their reputations and careers. This contest can be structured to be a Win / Win for the city and the builders. |
